Adaptive Boxing for Every Ability
I AM Movement’s Adaptive Martial Arts program is a non-contact, non-competitive program for adults with special needs. Sessions are designed specifically for neurodivergent individuals, including people with autism, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia. Coaches adapt instruction to eliminate human strike-zone cues while emphasizing the benefits of boxing as a form of exercise.
What Happens in Class?
The 60-minute classes incorporate modified boxing and Muay Thai drills to improve multitasking, cognition, cardiovascular health, body conditioning, strength, and coordination.
Building Everyday Skills
Other fitness exercises and activities are integrated to support daily functional living skills. These activities are based on input from the participant’s care partner and have included memory recall, using money, making choices, asking questions, speaking in complete sentences, learning phone numbers, assisting others, tying shoelaces, and more.
I AM Movement is an approved vendor with the Regional Center. No experience is required to participate.
